USA-valet: Obama slåss för sitt politiska liv

Det är svårt att tänka sig hur Barack Obama som för bara några veckor sedan verkade säker om segern inte bara i det demokratiska primärvalen utan också i presidentvalet mot den åldrige krigaren John McCain har kunnat hamna i ett så prekärt läge som idag.
Först förlorade han mot Clinton i Ohio, sedan i Pennsylvania, båda stora nyckelstater som demokraterna måste vinna i November. Men sedan ut från kulisserna skrider, nej springer hans f.d. pastor Jeremia Wright, en gåva från gudarna till Hillary Clinton och John McCain, som i tal efter tal på bästa sändningstid gör allt han överhuvudtaget kan för att gotta sig själv i rampluset och förstöra allt han möjligen kan förstöra för Obama och USA:a afroamerikaner.

“I’m outraged by the comments that were made and saddened over the spectacle that we saw yesterday,” Mr. Obama said, speaking to reporters here today. He added, “I find these comments appalling. It contradicts everything that I’m about and who I am.“Seeking to quell the political damage the controversy is dealing to his campaign, Mr. Obama called a press conference after a town meeting here this afternoon to raise the volume of his criticism of his former pastor.
In his speech on race last month in Philadelphia, where he tried to put the matter behind him, Mr. Obama said he gave Mr. Wright the benefit of the doubt. But after watching three days of Mr. Wright’s commentary in televised speeches and interviews, Mr. Obama said, “there are no excuses.”

Det är svårt att beskriva hur katastrofalt det här är för Obama, den tidigare osårbare, oslagbare drömkandidaten som nu får stå där vid skampålen medan Hillary Clinton och John McCain hånflinar över sin rent sagolika tur.
Peter Slevin skriver på Wasington Posts blog om hur Obama nu tvingas att fördöma sin f.d. pastor i allt starkare ordalag:
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Sen. Barack Obama today strongly criticized the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, his former pastor, saying that Wright’s comments about the United States in recent days have been “destructive” and “outrageous.”Using his sharpest language yet to describe a series of Wright performances that he said left him angry and sad, Obama accused Wright of exploiting racial divisions at the same time the Illinois senator is aiming to bring the nation together. “When I say I find these comments appalling, I mean it,” Obama told reporters in firm and somber tones.
“It contradicts everything that I’m about and who I am. And anybody who has worked with me, who knows my life, who has read my books, who has seen what this campaign is about I think will understand that it is completely opposed to what I stand for and where I want to take this country.”
Pastor Wright kommer nu att ge Hillary Clinton ännu en viktig seger i Indiana på tisdag nästa vecka och hans uttalanden kan t.o.m. komma att minska Obamas väntade seger i North Carolina.
Obama är inte slut men han är oerhört svårt sårad och det är idag inte längre omöjligt att föreställa sig en Clintonseger.
Allt beror på om pastor Wright kommer att hjälpa Clinton vinna med mer än 10% i Indiana och förlora med mindre än 10% i North Carolina.

Vad har du för grund för att påstå att Wright varit "andlig rådgivare åt familjen Clinton"? Om det är detta du menar är det inte mycket att hänga i skandalgranen:

So Obama is right that Rev. Wright was invited to the White House during a Clinton crisis. And some could certainly argue that the Rev. Wright being there that day lends credence to Obama’s point that Wright was not some fringe, rogue preacher as he has been portrayed.
It also is true that following the prayer breakfast that day, President Clinton did begin a long-term program of spiritual counseling with a small group of ministers. Wright was not among them.
Religious leaders close to the Clintons say that to imply the Rev. Wright was some sort of spiritual adviser to the Clintons — as Moore did — is a gross distortion.
“I think this would be a good example of the way in which facts are being twisted in this campaign,” said Campolo, a professor at Eastern College in St. Davids, Pa. “President Clinton did reach out to Rev. Jeremiah Wright, as he did to about 100 other participants in that very important prayer breakfast.
