USA-valet: den allt hetskare valkampanjen mellan Clinton och Obama

De senaste dagarna har visat hut viktigt det är för demokraterna att samlas bakom en kandidat. Hillary Clinton har eskalerat sina personangrepp mot Obama till ett ett veritabelt crescendo.

Målet är tydligt, att göra Obama omöjlig som presidentkandidat i hösterns presidentval.

The spots, running through Tuesday, capped a two-state advertising campaign that has cost the Clinton and Obama camps at least $9.5 million combined, according to Campaign Media Analysis Group. That is roughly what Senator John Kerry spent on television advertising through the entire 2004 primary season, according to the group’s data. But it has not been an even split: from March 28 through May 3, for instance, Mrs. Clinton spent $2.2 million on advertising time in North Carolina and Indiana, compared with the $6.3 million Mr. Obama spent in the states.

The ferocity of this week’s closing advertisements ” mostly a back and forth over Mrs. Clinton’s plan to suspend the federal gasoline tax ” is part of a progression of increasingly confrontational commercials that the campaigns have run just before these later primary and caucus contests.

Valutgången idag kommer att visa hur sofistikerade de amerikanska väljarna är. Kommer de att falla för Clintons löften om billigare bensin eller inte?

Det är långt ifrån omöjligt. De föll för George Bush löften om ett storkrig som skulle vara i generationer och de verkar inte ha något emot Hillary Clintons löfte om att döda 65 miljoner Iranier ifall den iranska regeringen skulle anfalla Israel.

Men natten är ung, vi får se hur det går.
