Obama i Oregon.

Nu på tisdag är det återigen primärval, denna gång i Kentucky och Oregon.

Medan de republikanska primärvalen för länge sedan är över så till vida att John McCain har vunnit så fortsätter bärsärkargången mellan Hillary Clinton och Barack Obama.

Medan Hillary Clinton kommer att vinna Kentucky med bred marginal, kanske uppemot 25% så kommer Obama att vinna Oregon med omkring 15%.

Clinton har för länge sedan förlorat valet men vägrar att ge upp. Och som Patrick Healy skriver i New York Times så skärper hon nu tonen genom att påstå att det är hon som leder mot Obama och inte tvärt emot:Claiming Vote Lead, Clinton Pushes Ahead - New York Times

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is entering the Kentucky and Oregon primaries on Tuesday with one of the most pugnacious political messages of her campaign: That she is ahead in the national popular vote when all votes are counted, including from the unsanctioned primaries in Michigan and Florida and that party leaders who have a vote as super-delegates should reflect this level of appeal. This argument is of a piece with Mrs. Clinton’s increasingly populist image, as a fighter on behalf of average people, but it is also a debatable claim:

Most tallies of the national popular vote put Mr. Obama in the lead, especially when Michigan and Florida are not counted. Mr. Obama has declared his own lead in the national vote and is solidly ahead in the overall delegate count, and he intends to use the results of the Kentucky and Oregon primaries to declare on Tuesday night that he has secured a majority of the pledged delegates from primaries and caucuses.

Det här är ett oerhört dumdristigt påstående och visar att Clinton verkar vara beredd att göra allt i sin makt för att skada Obama så mycket hon överhuvudtaget kan.

Att det kommer att skada hennes egen position är något hon inte verkar vara det minsta berörd av.

When Senator Clinton started to style herself as a dab hand with guns in Pennsylvania and an enemy of the intellectual elites in Indiana, she began to validate the opinions of all those who believe the Clintons—no matter which—would do anything to win. Her candidacy has had special resonance for many women, no question, but that means she has special obligations, too. And one of those obligations is to see that the lesson learned is not that women running for office can be just as skeevy as their male counterparts.

That’s not the legacy she wants, one of old-style politics in jewel-toned jackets: more spoiler, less stateswoman, more Ralph Nader, less Eleanor Roosevelt. She’s better than that. And she has an example always before her, that of the last Democratic president, her husband, who tarnished his luster because he acted in the moment rather than taking the long view

Clinton kommer hur som helst att fortsätta sin valkampanj till i början eller mitten av Juni och vi kan vänta oss en blodig kamp om hur man skall räkna rösterna från Michigan och Florida som diskvalificerades för att de inte följde det demokratiska partiets regler. Obama ställde inte ens upp i Michigan.

Men ingen vet hur eller ens när Clinton kommer att avsluta sin valkampanj. Och ingen vet heller vilka krav hon kommer att ställa på Obama för att han slutligen skall kunna bli av med henne.

Det här dramat är ännu inte över. Vi kan vänta oss en rent Wagnerisk slutakt där Brünnhilde mycket väl kan komma att slänga sig själv och Obama och hela det demokratiska partiet i Ragnaröks lågor.
