The symbolism of protégé and mentor permeated Mr. Obama’s address, which called graduates to public service, honored Mr. Kennedy and reflected the legacy of his family.
“It is rare in this country of ours that a person exists who has touched the lives of nearly every single American without any of us even realizing it,” Mr. Obama said, his voice rising. “And I have a feeling that Ted Kennedy is not done just yet. But surely, if one man can achieve so much and make such a difference in the lives of so many, then each of us can do our part.”
Mr. Kennedy has deep ties to Wesleyan — his stepdaughter graduated Sunday, and his son Edward Jr. celebrated his 25th reunion this weekend.
Mr. Obama implored the 737 undergraduates and 100 graduate students to change the country and the world through service to others, a theme Mr. Kennedy planned to focus on. Mr. Obama urged them to help rebuild New Orleans, volunteer at a local soup kitchen or help end the situation in Darfur, and to remember that change will come, though not immediately.

Katharine Q. Seelye skriver i New York Times om Cintons allt sjukare agerande: Clinton Defends RFK Remarks
Mrs. Clinton wrote a long letter to The Daily News in New York, which was printed in the news pages and in which Mrs. Clinton said her remarks were taken entirely out of context.
And her aides said on Sunday that the campaign of Senator Barack Obama was partly responsible for fanning the flames.
The Clinton campaign has been knocked back on its heels by the reaction to her comments, made Friday to the editorial board of the Argus Leader in Sioux Falls, S.D., in which she said she did not understand why some people were trying to push her out of the presidential race because historically, other campaigns had gone on into June, and added:
Brian Knowlton skriver i New York Times om hur David Axelrod, Obamas chefsstrateg ser på läget i valet just nu:Aide Sees Obama Clinching Nomination in June
The strategist, David Axelrod, was asked on the ABC News program “This Week” whether Mr. Obama might “go over the top” after Puerto Rico votes on June 1, and Montana and South Dakota hold the final primaries two days later, presumably bringing new superdelegates to him. “I believe that we will,” he said.
“By any calculation, we’re within striking distance of getting the absolute number that we need,” he said, “and I’m confident — I’m confident that we will.”
