Hur många år kan Barack Obama tjänstgöra som president?

Man skulle tro att Barack Obama som mest kan vara president i åtta år, men så är det inte.
Enligt författningen kan han faktiskt tjänstgöra som president i tio hela år.
Det 22:a tillägget till författningen som infördes 1947 efter Franklin D. Roosevelt hade valts till president tre gånger lyder så här:
Twenty-second Amendment to the United States Constitution
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.
Det här betyder alltså att Obama kan sitta sin presidentperiod ut, alltså fyra år. Sedan kan han ställa upp som Joe Bidens vicepresident. Biden är president i två år, avgår sedan och Obama blir president i ytterligare två år. Då kan Obama alltså enligt författningen ställa upp en gång till och tjänstgöra som president i tillsammans tio år, helt lagligt.
Vi vet att Hillary Clinton kom ytterst nära att vinna presidentvalet och att många av hennes väljare ville ha henne just för att man, som man sade “fick två för en”.
Det tror jag hade varit utomordentligt farligt och vi får verkligen hoppas att vi inte får dynastier som Clintons eller den katastrofala Bush-dynastin någonsin igen.
Ett positivt tecken är att George Bushs yngre bror Jeb Bush har bestämt sig för att inte kandidera till Senaten.
Men tio år kan en president alltså sitta, inte åtta.
